U14 National Jamboree
USA Curling is pleased to announce the implementation of another piece of its junior athlete development plan, the first ever U14 National Jamboree, to be held Oct. 17-20 in Bismarck, N.D. The event will offer young curlers an avenue to compete with friends, meet other curlers from around the country of similar age, and fall in love with the game.
Teams will compete against teams in their pool but not beyond. The event will begin with a clinic for athletes to help improve delivery, strategy and team systems. This clinic will be conducted by top coaches and Olympic athletes. Concurrently, there will be a beginning parent coach clinic to provide interested non-curling parents with useful information in coaching their young team. Also planned is a coach mentorship opportunity in which an experienced coach or athlete will assist a team and their coach from pre-game meeting to post-game wrap-up. Although the event will feel like a championship event in many ways, it is really a development event because of the strong emphasis on training. The opening reception on Thursday evening will feature a keynote by Tyler George, 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist.
Other Jamboree goals are to encourage retention of youth curlers at the club level, and to create a starting point for youth competitive curling.
Competition details are as follows:
In this first year, the event will be capped at 24 teams, with registrations accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The Jamboree will expand in future years to meet demand. Now is the time to get your team formed as registration will open Aug. 14, 2019.
*Annual NCSI background screen and SafeSport training.
