CAPITAL CURLING CLUB
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
March 19, 2005
Board Nominations: Five board positions were vacant. President Roxanne
Howes thanked outgoing board members. Roxanne then introduced board candidates
Jeff Bakken, Brandon Leingang, Miles Melhoff, Lynn Neutz, Roger Peet, Dave
Pengilly, and Tom Pomonis, and called for any additional nominations from the
floor. No additional nominations were made. There was a motion by Roger Smith,
seconded by Roger Peet to cease nominations. The motion passed unanimously, and
ballots were passed out to the membership.
Financial Report: Treasurer Mike Borr presented the financial report. As
of March 19, 2005, the combined savings and checking account balances totaled $
28,744.47. Fiscal year income to date was $ 94,071.23 and expenses were $
99,396.16 for a net of $ -5,324.93. Mike estimated that the annual deficit would
be between $ 1,000 and $ 2,000 after the silent auction and collection of
outstanding bills.
Summerspiel: The summerspiel is filling up fast. We’re looking into
putting two sheets on the arena on an experimental basis in hopes of expanding
the number of teams next year.
Club Improvements: Major club improvements this year were the closed
circuit TV system and new chairs for the upstairs clubroom.
Junior Instructional League: 25-30 juniors participated each week. Thanks
to Roger Peet and everyone else who volunteered their time on Saturday mornings
to help develop our future champions.
Junior Nationals: The event was a great success and really showcased our
club. Congratulations to Team USA, the Gervais rink! Roxanne Howes presented a
plaque to Tom Pomonis in appreciation for all of his work as event chairman.
Thanks also to all of the club members and others in the community who
volunteered their time.
Junior Worlds: The Gervais rink were great ambassadors for our country,
our state, and our club. We’re all proud of Gilian, Sarah, Steph, Steph, and
Amy. They had a tough week in Italy, losing several close games and eventually
finishing 1-8 in the round robin. A special thanks to Dave Jensen for all his
tireless work as coach. Jon Mielke collected nearly $ 5,000 in donations to help
defray costs for the trip to Italy. Thanks to everyone who donated.
League Committee: Roger Smith reminded skips to see him if they haven’t
yet signed up for leagues next year. It looks like all leagues will be full,
with one or more new leagues forming.
