CAPITAL CURLING CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

December 1, 2004

Tentative

Members Present:  Mike Borr, Greg Hiemenz, Larry Brekke, Roxanne Howes, Roger Peet, Rita Becker,  Tom Pomonis, Dave Clemmons, Mike Ell, Roger Smith

Minutes of last meeting:  There was a motion by Roger Peet, seconded by Larry Brekke, to approve the minutes of the November 3, 2004 board meeting.  The motion carried unanimously.

Financial Report: As of December 1, net income is $20,478 for this fiscal year.  Mike Borr will roll over some of our 6-month CDs into 18-month CDs.

House and Ice: Carpets will be cleaned prior to the Junior Nationals.

Video System: The cameras and modulator have been installed.  Mike Ell recommended that the club purchase four 25-inch monitors for $170 each.  The board concurred.  Dave Jensen will order mounting brackets through his business for $75 each.  Conduit has been installed to run speaker cable to the upstairs clubroom.

Junior Nationals Update: Tom Pomonis reported that preparations are going well.  Advertizing solicitation is behind schedule, and needs to be pushed to make the event a financial success.

The University of Mary Communications Department will help with the daily newsletter, and could also help produce a slideshow on CD.

We need to make arrangements for risers in the upstairs viewing area.  Mike Ell will check into available sources.  If none are found, the club will construct risers.

League Committee Report: We have 70 league teams.  Tuesday late and Wednesday late have eight teams, all other leagues have nine teams.  If enough interest is found, we may organize an afternoon stick league.

Roger Smith suggested that we set up a beginners/intermediate clinic.  The board agreed, and an announcement will be posted in the clubroom when a date is chosen.

The beginners spiel still needs to be scheduled.  We will probably run it concurrently with the club spiel in February.

Advertizing Committee: Cable Access will televise a promotional video on curling provided by USCA.

Other Business: The State Seniors championship is in Bismarck this year.  After some discussion on available dates, there was a motion by Rita Becker, seconded by Greg Hiemenz, to schedule the event on March 4, 5, 6. The motion passed unanimously.  Roger Smith is still looking for a host chair.

Roger Smith will post information on USCA club championship playdowns.  These playdowns do not lead to the World or Olympic championships.

There was a motion to adjourn by Tom Pomonis, seconded by Mike Ell. The Motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned.

Next Meeting: January 5, 2005.
